For those who grew up and schooled in Nigeria,  (I am saying Nigeria because I don’t know if what am about to write is practiced in other parts of the world) we all know there is this norm of praying on the Assembly ground before classes begin. The Muslim students say theirs while we all listen and once they are done the Christians do the same.

For all of the schools I attended, The lords prayer was always recited… Most of us recited the lords prayer without really sitting back to understand what it meant, we were even more excited with the verse of the lords prayer which says Give us this day our daily bread…. I mean who wouldn’t be excited about their daily bread?

Let us look at the lines of our Lords Prayer

Matthew Chapter 6 verse 9-13

9) pray then in this way: ‘Our Father, who is in heaven, Hallowed be your Name

10) Your Kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven

11) Give us this day our daily bread

12)And forgive us our debts, as we have forgiven our debtors [letting go of both the wrong and the resentment]

13) And do not lead us into Temptation but deliver us from evil. [for yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen]

Notice how the first two verses (verse 9 and 10) are prayers directed towards Gods needs?… Most of us are only concerned with what God can give to us or what He should do for us, some even get angry when what they have asked for isn’t granted. We are very quick to forget about Gods needs or We do not even think of His needs at all and the things His Heart beats for. The moment we begin to focus on what Jesus our savior desires from us, that is the moment growth begins.

The lords prayer
Are you always receiving?

Go back to your drawing board, is your relationship with the father a one sided one? is it a God give me this Give me that kind of relationship? if it is, SHIFT YOUR FOCUS. Every other thing will fall in place without you even realizing it.

Ask Him and He will lead you, it might be praying for a soul to be saved or encouraging someone with Gods word or even for you to spend more time with Him. Just Trust and obey.

Have a great day ahead

stay motivated….

  1. I try to do as I’m lead but honestly I don’t necessarily think of God having needs. Not until reading this. God actually has needs from me. What a thought. How humbling and God centered rather than self centered.!!! Thank you for this post.

  2. That is so very true! We need to be less self centered and more God centered. We would find things would go so much better that way. Great post, thanks for sharing!
