THE GIDEON RULE!!! (part 2 )

Last week I wrote on the GIDEON RULE PART 1, if you didn’t get to read that blog kindly click HERE . Today’s blog would be a conclusion of the Gideon rule.

Judges chapter 7:4-6

Verse 4: Then the Lord said to Gideon, “There are still too many people; bring them down to the water and I will test them for you there. Therefore it shall be that he of whom I say to you, ‘This one shall go with you,’ he shall go with you; but everyone of whom I say to you, ‘This one shall not go with you,’ he shall not go.”

Verse 5: So he brought the people down to the water, and the Lord said to Gideon, “You shall separate everyone who laps the water with his tongue as a dog laps, as well as everyone who kneels down to drink.”

Verse 6: Now the number of those who lapped [the water], putting their hand to their mouth, was three hundred men, but all the rest of the people kneeled down to drink water.

The sieving and selection process continues.

In the last blog I listed out four points and I will continue from there today.

Number 5: As He says unto you do it

We see God telling Gideon in the verse 4 that it is only the ones He ( God) chooses that will go for war. Have you ever been in a situation where God asked you to do something and you begin to second guess Him? I have been in such situations on numerous occasions and I must say those times I doubted his voice and decided to play smart were the dumbest moments of my life. Most days I wake up I ask God to teach me to obey Him because I have learnt You cannot outsmart your creator.

Number 6: Nothing will make sense 95 % of the time.

I can’t help but imagine what thoughts were running through Gideon’s mind when God told Him in the verse 5 to separate those who lapped water with their tongues like dogs and the ones who knelt down to drink water. Like God seriously you couldn’t look for any other strategy? Imagine God asking you to leave your multimillion dollar company and go evangelize in a remote village I am sure most of us would ask God to speak again. When nothing makes sense remember the Number 5 ( as he says unto you do it ) I pray God teaches us to trust Him because without trust in God your walk with Him would be very difficult.

Why would God choose those who lapped the water like dogs over those who knelt down to drink?

Dogs do not have cheeks like we humans do and so they have been conditioned to lap water with their tongues it is very convenient for them but inconvenient for us humans because we haven’t been conditioned that way ( we have cheeks which enables us hold water in our mouth). There is nothing convenient about war and even if God was the one fighting their battles he needed men who would be able to withstand all of the challenges and inconveniences that comes with going for war. I don’t know much about wars but I know they can go days without eating, bathing and with very little or no water to drink. God saw men who were willing to go the extra mile men who would risk their lives for the peace of their nation  men who didn’t care if the situation was convenient or not men who were willing to humble themselves and drink water like dogs. God saw all of this things ahead of time which was why he used this strategy. I guess the ones who bent down to drink to their full were already tired even before the real journey had started. God is indeed the master planner.

Number 7: quality over quantity

A journey which began with thirty thousand men was downsized to three hundred and it did not stop God from accomplishing his plan. Take a moment to think have you been more concerned and focused on quantity rather than quality? Do you measure your relationship with God by the number of times you pray, Go to church, fast, give alms, read your Bible e.t.c ( I am not saying it is bad to do this things) rather than intimacy with him. Because you can do all of this things and still not have a relationship with God.

Are you more concerned about having a bunch of people in your life even when they are not adding any spiritual, physical, mental, emotional and financial value to your life all because you don’t want to be alone or because you want to be associated with the so called “happening people “ ?

Shift your focus.

I hope you were blessed by the Gideon rule as much as I was.

THE GIDEON RULE!!!(part 1)

While I was studying the book of judges the seventh chapter to be precise, God opened my eyes to see something amazing like he always does and which I will be Sharing part of it in today’s blog and post the other part in the next blog so stay tuned for that.

God chose Gideon for an Assignment which was for him to save his people from the medianites. The medianites were terrorizing the people of Israel and God chose Gideon as the man who would lead an army to fight against this people. Like any person in this situation would do, Gideon chose the “best men “ those he believed were capable and strong enough to go for war 32,000 men in total. Let us see what the Bible says in judges chapter 7:1-3(TLB version)

Chapter 1: Jerubbaal (that is, Gideon—his other name) and his army got an early start and went as far as the spring of Harod. The armies of Midian were camped north of them, down in the valley beside the hill of Moreh.

Chapter 2: The Lord then said to Gideon, “There are too many of you! I can’t let all of you fight the Midianites, for then the people of Israel will boast to me that they saved themselves by their own strength!

Chapter 3: Send home any of your men who are timid and frightened.” So twenty-two thousand of them left, and only ten thousand remained who were willing to fight.

Our main focus for today’s blog will be the chapter two and three. Now here is what I learnt.

Number 1: not everyone who you began your journey with will end the journey with you in other words you will lose a lot of people along the way. When I say lose I don’t mean death in this context I mean some people in your life will have to stay behind in order for you to continue your journey. This is a really bitter pill to chew especially when you have made plans with such people and you already saw yourself accomplishing so many milestones with them. What if just like Gideon God is saying to you my daughter/my son this people you feel you need on this journey with me, really have no role to play it is time to let them go or what if God is saying this people/person would only end up being a distraction and I need you to be focused…. we need to understand that keeping people in our lives beyond their season can be fatal, you can miss out on a major breakthrough all because you were stuck with someone at a time and place where you weren’t meant to be. Remember God knows the end from the beginning and it would do us so much Good and prevent us from harm if we can trust and obey him. Do not try to bargain with God Let God keep the people in your life which he intends to keep. Why was God asking Gideon to get rid of some of the men? He said because they would boast that they saved themselves by their own strength, this leads me to my second point.

Number 2: Never put your trust in man or your own self: your trust should be in God who is accomplishing that great thing through you or through someone else. Never make the mistake of taking the glory. Take a moment to think, are there people or a person in your life whom you feel you are nothing without or you feel if that person walks out on you, or stops funding your project then you are finished? well if there is anybody like that am sorry but you need to sit down and make some adjustments. God doesn’t bring people into our lives for them to take His place, He brings them so he can accomplish something through them for you so nothing should ever take God’s place . I have come to realize that one of the reasons God intentionally takes some people out of our lives is because we have become too dependent on them instead of the God who brought them into our lives. It would only take someone who truly loves God to realize that God is only using them to accomplish his will every other person would take the glory and rub it in your face. Take your eyes off your self and man and fix your eyes on Jesus. I am not saying don’t appreciate people or acknowledge the good they are doing for you all I am saying is they should never take God’s place.

The chapter 3 talks about God asking Gideon to send home any of his men who are timid or frightened.

Number 3: please do not force anyone to follow the path which you have chosen all because you don’t want to be alone you are setting yourself up for failure. I guess Gideon did not take the time out to ask the people if they wanted to go for war or not, he just chose them without knowing they were full of fear, thank God for His wisdom, imagine if God had not asked him to carry out this exercise of selection.. Ask God for wisdom when it comes to making or taking any decision. You don’t just choose anyone for a life changing event or experience, look beyond physical appearance. You need people who are like minded people who aren’t fearful because honestly fear would stop you from accomplishing even the smallest of tasks. You need faith boosters not fear boosters.

As I bring this writeup to a conclusion here is my final point

Number 4: keep your ears and your heart open. Be spiritually sensitive, let the ears of your spirit be open constantly so you know when God is speaking and when it is just your mind or the enemy playing games with you.

Let your heart be open to whatever God intends to do, do not harden your heart when God speaks, imagine if Gideon had disobeyed, there are times when it won’t make sense but the Beauty of it is surrendering to His will. Keep your heart teachable.

How do I know when it is time to let go of some people?

First of all letting go of some folks doesn’t mean fighting with them or telling them how useless they are, it is spiritual discernment and letting God work his wisdom in you. Most of the times from my experience, God will raise up situations or events which would make it really clear for you, at times he would use those people to give you signals ( don’t ignore those signals). He would speak to you through his word or even in prayers He is not the author of confusion and I believe He will guide you to make the right decisions and give you wisdom on how to go about it.

Last week I was speaking with my Dad and after telling him some of the challenges I was having he said this to me a lion can never give birth to a goat, I am a lion who has birthed a lioness, you carry my genes and because I have accomplished so many things in my life through God’s help even through the toughest of times you would also accomplish yours. I know who I gave birth to and she is as tough and persevering as I am. This words sent down chills within my spine, after I had dropped the call i began to think as usual.

When Jesus died for us and we received him as our lord and personal saviour something happened and you know what that was? An exchange happened. Yes our sinful nature I would love to say our genes were automatically changed because a new life was given and the old life was taken making us new creatures. Created in God’s image, automatically becoming his children and carrying within us his genes.

Since we are Gods children why do we exhibit traits which are not of our father and settle for less than what he has intended for us?

Why are we timid? so full of fear, why do we feel inferior? why can’t we speak out? why are we not living the life our father has called us to live? why are you hiding in a box? why are you letting life pass you by? why are you just existing and not living? why are you living in pity? why do you always want to quit when you are faced with a challenge? why are you not committed to the little God has placed in your hands?why are you not letting God’s light shine through you?

Dear reader the truth is life is full of challenges and you will face a whole lot of those challenges but you have not been called to walk that path alone, you have a father who is always present to encourage you, walk that journey with you and most importantly love you even when you don’t love yourself so stop listening to the devil you are not alone. God is saying I know my child, I believe in his /her abilities so Run to your father you are the son/daughter of the most excellent God you carry His genes, you are not allowed to settle for less than what He has called you for.

One of the reasons why God’s word is so amazing is the fact that even when you have read it a million times, there is always something new which the Holy Spirit reveals to you as long as you are open to his teachings. In my last blog I talked about the book of Habakkuk the chapter 2. If you didn’t read that please kindly click here. I went back to study that chapter and I got a new revelation from it which I am about to share.

Habakkuk chapter 2:1

I will stand at my guard post And station myself on the tower; And I will keep watch to see what He will say to me, And what answer I will give [as His spokesman] when I am reproved.

The whole point of verse one will be missed if you don’t understand what led the prophet into beginning his statement that way. From the chapter one it was recorded that he had a vision where God showed him things about his nation and all of the hardships they were going to be faced with, so when he woke up from that vision he began by saying he will stand at his guard post and station himself I began to imagine him like a security man whose duty is to watch over a house and it is paramount that he doesn’t leave his post. So how does this relate to me as an individual?

It means there is a place of calling God has designated and intended for me to stay and grow in. God gave this prophet a vision and the first step in getting to understand this vision is/was.

Do not try to follow the crowd, don’t stay back in a place because your friends are there when clearly you know that is not where God intends for you to be, do not run with other people’s vision remember he did not say I will stand at someone else’s guard post . Imagine asking a fish to stay on dry Land, you and I know it would not survive why because it wasn’t created for land it has been designed by God to live, grow and enjoy its best life in water. You thrive better when you are in a place where God has asked you to be in and If things don’t go well you can always run back to God and let Him know he led you to that direction in the first place.

Next he said i will keep watch to see what he will say to me. Which brings me to my second point

He anticipated to hear what God had to say about this vision and the only way for him not to be distracted was to keep his eyes open and fixed on God. Staying at your place of calling is good but it’s definitely not enough. you do not sleep at your duty post you stay alert and look out for intruders. You need to keep asking God what next? Should I stay or should I move e.t.c I also see this as wisdom because when you have a Godgiven vision who else to receive instructions from if not from the one who gave you the vision? truth is whatever you have your eyes fixed on, your other senses as a matter of fact, your whole body connects to that one thing so as you keep looking onto jesus and seeking Him your whole senses just connects to Him and you don’t miss out on any step. Apart from receiving instructions when we keep our eyes fixed on Him, you don’t get distracted you don’t loose sight of the job on ground, the Devil no longer has any chance to lie to you or come through people who will try to talk you out of that vision. How do you keep your eyes fixed on Him? Stay in continuous fellowship with Him through study of the word, and prayer.

Chapter 2 verse 2

Then the Lord answered me and said, “Write the vision And engrave it plainly on [clay] tablets So that the one who reads it will run.

in the case of Habakkuk the vision he had was for a nation and while he was waiting to hear from God, God asked him to write down the vision so it could serve as a reminder what a great idea. What is the importance of writing down a goal/ vision/ dream….. let’s see the next verse

Chapter 2 verse 3

“For the vision is yet for the appointed [future] time It hurries toward the goal [of fulfillment]; it will not fail. Even though it delays, wait [patiently] for it, Because it will certainly come; it will not delay.

God knew things will come up that will try to hinder that dream from coming to pass which was why he said to write it down so that when you are discouraged, or you feel God has lied to you which of course is not true,  nothing is working out, you feel you made the biggest mistake of your life  or maybe you have even forgotten what the dream was, you can always go back to your reminder and before you know it you become encouraged again. As I bring this write up to a close I want to let you know something

you can see from the verse 3 that God Himself said even though it delays meaning there would be delays, your bank account might even go red, people will talk you down, you will feel like a looser when you see those you started before already at the top but wait patiently it will happen at the appointed time and it won’t delay a single second when it is time.

You said one of the areas you wanted us to Deal with is your spiritual life so let’s talk about it today. It was my first meeting for the week with my spiritual father and as I got comfortable we started to talk.

Me: my spiritual journey has been good but I still have rough days.

Him: what’s your definition of a good day from the spiritual standpoint?

Me: waking up and just being so enthusiastic about studying God’s word, and as I open my bible I can just hear Him speaking to me directly. On this days I don’t have to think about what to pray about or how to start praying because the words just flow freely and I can just feel God. Songs just rise from my heart the whole day ( my spirit is singing and it’s reflecting on my outside) To top that up being conscious of his presence and literally seeing the words/things he is speaking to me about, unfold before my eyes. That to me is my definition of a perfect day with God.

Him: And your definition of a rough day?

Me : Those days I wake up in the morning and find it difficult to utter a word, 10 mins to me seem really Long. It’s like God is so far away and I cannot feel Him talk more of hearing his voice. On this days the Bible feels really boring to me like a book filled with stories, I just lay there and I am quiet……..I try to make meaning from the songs I am singing but I am finding it hard to concentrate, my thoughts are just all over the place.

He looked at me with a smile and said let’s look at Gods word shall we? Open to the book of Habakkuk chapter 2:1-2. As I opened he said read it…

Chapter 1: I will stand at my guard post And station myself on the tower; And I will keep watch to see what He will say to me, And what answer I will give [as His spokesman] when I am reproved.

Chapter 2: Then the Lord answered me and said, “Write the vision And engrave it plainly on [clay] tablets So that the one who reads it will run.

Notice the chapter one began with i will stand that means being still, to wait, to position oneself. This can also be seen in the account of the children of Israel when they were to cross the Red Sea but they were greatly afraid and God said to standstill. The chapter did not begin with I will run or I will talk or I will sing ( not like this things are wrong, but there is a time and place for it) the writer prophet Habakkuk continued by saying he will keep watch to see what God is saying to him, His job at this point was just to listen so he can see. most times we get too caught up in the activity that we loose sight of the reason for the activity in the first place. I would like to imagine it like a house caught in a fire and you have a baby trapped in there but the firefighters can’t actually hear clearly or even hear at all that there is a baby trapped and crying for help if the place is too noisy. But the very moment they step into that room or house and the noise has somewhat diminished the sound of the crying baby becomes evident and then they begin to trail where the sound is coming from until they finally see the child and come to his/her aid. Listening and being still opens us up to a newer revelation.

The chapter two says then the lord answered him… but we never saw where prophet Habakkuk did any talking, so why was God answering him and what was God answering? you see though his mouth wasn’t talking, his heart was with God I guess his heart was saying words which the mouth couldn’t utter. God was answering a heart that was yearning for something deeper.

A similar experience can be seen with another prophet in the Bible prophet Elijah. He was seeking for God in the wrong places, he felt the place with the most noise or event was where God was but contrary to that God was In a gentle whisper

1st kings 19:11-13

“Go out and stand before me on the mountain,” the Lord told him. And as Elijah stood there the Lord passed by, and a mighty windstorm hit the mountain; it was such a terrible blast that the rocks were torn loose, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind, there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. And after the earthquake, there was a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire, there was the sound of a gentle whisper. When Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his scarf and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave. And a voice said, “Why are you here, Elijah?”

Him: Beauty I also used to have those days and still do and I can say they are my most exciting days now because those are the days I get to enjoy God’s presence more Infact I long more for those days.

Me: huh? Ok…..

At that point I realised God was teaching me to learn to wait more, to be patient and enjoy whatever kind of day I was having with him. So if you are just like me here is a summary of what you should take note of.

What do I take note of from today’s word?

• Do not put God in a box don’t think he has to speak to you in a specific manner all the time.

• As much as you enjoy your bubbling days, learn to also Enjoy those quiet days you term as “boring” trust me those are the days that God most times infiltrates us with his word because we are not busy talking.

• Your quiet days can actually be your heart yearning for more of God and letting go of what you are used too.

• Be open to whatever God has in stock for you on a daily basis.

• God is never far he is closer that you think just stop chasing the wrong things.

• Anticipate those quiet days because they will definitely come and when they eventually come you can just enjoy the solitude knowing that God your father is right there with you.

Few blogs ago I talked briefly about the book of 1st Samuel chapter 30:1-6 if you didn’t get to read that blog kindly click here to view. After going into more study of that chapter I found really interesting things.

Verse 8 says

David asked the Lord, “Shall I chase them? Will I catch them?” And the Lord told him, “Yes, go after them; you will recover everything that was taken from you!”

The first person David asked for affirmation from was God not his mother, father, friend, coworkers e.t.c he valued God’s word more than anything. He knew he could still count on God regardless of the situation. He was about to make one of the biggest decisions of his life and who else to talk to if not God. Earlier this year if am not mistaken, I attended a midweek service at church and we were asked a question which I will never forget, the question was who is the first person you think of or run to or call upon when disaster strikes? Truth is most of us don’t think of God we think of other people first and then God comes second, third or even last place. I am not immune to this mistake and I believe we all can learn from David. So David Got confirmation from God and he did as he was told but really interesting things happened along the way.

Verse 9-10

So David and his six hundred men set out after the Amalekites. When they reached Besor Brook, two hundred of the men were too exhausted to cross, but the other four hundred kept going.

Here we can see that he started off the journey with 600 men and 200 of them were exhausted along the way. He didn’t retaliate or force them to proceed which brings me to my next point compassion. On so many occasions in the Bible it was documented that Jesus had compassion for the people, the role of compassion cannot be overemphasized and it is something everyone of us should strive towards. As God places you in charge of people be it a small group or large number of people learn to genuinely seek the interest of others, it must not always go your own way, Do not say when I start leading a huge number of people I will learn that is a No No begin with your group mates, course mates, hostel mates, family members, and let the Holy Spirit work his way in you. Another thing I want us to take note of from this verse is that God doesn’t see limitations, I am certain 600 men who were now reduced to 400 wasn’t enough to conquer a nation from the human point of view but that didn’t stop God or David (thank God for his faith) from going on with the plan. If God has given you a vision or put it in your heart to do something, don’t look for every possible excuse to back down see that limitation as a possibility.

Verse 11-12

Along the way they found an Egyptian youth in a field and brought him to David. He had not had anything to eat or drink for three days and nights, so they gave him part of a fig cake, two clusters of raisins, and some water, and his strength soon returned.

This verse started with a really important statement “along the way”. As you begin your journey with God be careful not to push him aside along the way, never you think you are wiser or smarter than God and you no longer need his instructions because you will be setting yourself up for a disaster. As we walk with God he keeps signpost everywhere for us not to miss our way which is why it is very important for us to keep seeking him in every step. The Egyptian youth David’s men found in the field was one of those signpost and thank God they didn’t ignore it. What signposts have you ignored or are you currently ignoring? Be careful not to be carried away remember God gave you that vision you are running with in the first place. Again be compassionate this boy would have been left to starve to death but they didn’t let that happen.

Verse 13-16

Apparently the boy they saved was a servant to an Amalekite ( the Amalekites were the ones who raided the nation of Israel and took their wives and children). His master left him behind because he was sick. What if the master was compassionate enough to take his servant back home instead of leaving him in the field? Hmmm Who knew God would use this boy to lead David and his men into the camp of the Amalekites. Road-stamps!!! my people do not ignore them, as you let God lead you a lot of things would not make sense by your human understanding but trust Him and don’t take anything for granted.

Verse 17-20

Speaks of how David and his men had victory and were able to get back their wives and children.

From today’s writeup here are seven things you should take note of

• Before you take any step seek for God’s confirmation

• Let God always be your first point of call

• Be compassionate

See every limitation as a possibility

• Be careful not to push God to the sidelines as you embark on your journey

• Do not ignore the signposts

• If you want victory at the end make sure you stick with God.

Have an amazing week ahead

Once upon a time I had a prayer pattern, I would usually begin by thanking God for what he has done, then proceed to tell him what I want and then conclude my prayers. If I had enough time I would read my Bible Notice I used the word read not study because they are two different things.

Back then I never had a real talk with God when I mean real talk I mean like talking to your best friend and how you talk about anything to them. I guess I never pictured God as one I could talk to about certain things because apparently I felt they weren’t serious and God was “too serious “ for that kind of gist. One of the major things I used to hold back from talking to Him about was my relationship ( boy/girl relationship) looking back now I realised my refusal to talk to Him about that aspect of my life was because I was too scared to hear what He had to say, would He approve? Would He not approve? If He says no how will I move on from the breakup e.t.c I guess I ignored the fact that He was my Daddy and he knew what was best for me.

As God began to work in me and rid me of trust issues he began to open my eyes to see that I could talk to Him about just anything and everything and I didn’t need a prayer pattern the same way I act freely and talk freely to my close friends I could relate with Him that way with no filter. Back in the day I would never catch myself talking to God about things like how my day went, or how I had an argument with someone, or how I overreacted to a particular issue ( I would just say God I am sorry and that is it. I felt like that was enough) and the list goes on.

Through His help, today I literally talk to Him about everything even if I know He is God and He is aware. As silly as going to the mall and being indecisive about what products to choose, I talk to Him about it like I am asking my friend and I get a reply.

Most of us are used to shutting up some areas of our lives from God, we don’t want to talk to Him about it we always feel like we are good in that aspect and we have it all sorted out, the truth is God is aware of those areas but he won’t force you to open up if you are not willing to. Imagine you as a house (we are Gods temple) with different rooms, an individual or people can only gain access into those rooms if they have the key or you let them in, in other words they are visitors and if you don’t want them to go into certain rooms it’s your choice. Most of us treat God like a visitor we forget that the life we have and those rooms( by rooms I mean the different areas of our lives) we are trying to secure wouldn’t be there in the first place if not for Him.

If there is anything I have learnt for sure is that God is a God of relationships looking at the account of man from the beginning, It said God would always come down to earth in the cool of the day just to fellowship with man. Another place we can see this, is the relationship God had with Enoch, He enjoyed the relationship he had with Enoch so much that he took Him to be with Him.

Genesis 5:22-24 ( voice translation )

After Methuselah was born, Enoch lived in a close relationship with God for 300 more years; he also had other sons and daughters. He lived to be 365 years old, but Enoch had such a close and intimate relationship with God that one day he just vanished—God took him.

Why do I need to talk to God about everything?

  • He is mindful of you ( psalms 8:4 ).
  • He is intentional about you.
  • Because we do not serve a God who is unable to sympathise with our weakness meaning He also came down to earth and took a human form so all you are going through he also went through ( Hebrews 4:15 ).
  • He wants you to cast all of your cares on Him Not some of your Cares ( 1st peter 5:7 ).
  • He is a friend that sticks closer than a brother.
  • He loves you.

What happens when I talk to him?

1. your issues automatically becomes His meaning nothing more to worry about.

2. No room for mistakes because you can trust Him to lead you right.

3. He exposes you to your wrongs through His word which makes you want to change and do better.

4. No room for judgement ( No side eyes from Him 😆😆)

5. Your relationship with Him is strengthened.

6. You become happier and others around you can feel it, you exude so much positivity.

how do I approach God?

There are no protocols just be open, don’t shy away from any issue like I used to, you might not get the answer you want or you think you should have but learn to trust Him, He knows best.

Have a blessed week ahead.

Three weeks ago I had an experience that opened my eyes to something I never had a proper knowledge of. From this experience God opened my eyes to three main categories of people which I felt led to share in today’s blog.

This people fall under the category of those who haven’t given their lives or accepted jesus as their personal lord and savior, they deny the existence of God or anything that has to do with him and they just live life based on their terms. In as much as Jesus died for everyone in the world this particular group unfortunately have no part in Him because in order for us to fully access the gift of salvation we have to believe and accept what jesus did on the cross. I gave a detailed explanation in one of the blogs so please click here if you didn’t read it.

They have believed and accepted jesus fully into their lives but at some point they became too comfortable. By comfortable I mean they stopped yearning for more of God, they feel like since I have accepted jesus that is all and they forget that for a relationship to thrive a lot of sacrifices have to be made. No relationship thrives when none of the parties is putting in any effort. so many surveys which have been carried out on couples who were married for 30, 40, 50 or more years all had similar answers when asked what the secret to a successful marriage was, their answer was communication. What we share with God is a relationship and not just any kind but an intimate one but for most of us our actions don’t prove that. We go days without studying His word or talking to Him in prayer, we have more time for our personal business more than we have time for Him we would rather stay up all day talking or seeing movies, but the very moment it comes to prayer time we become bored and want to sleep. We go to church on Sunday’s just to mark attendance and to have a positive answer to give when we are asked if we went to church. we have become spiritually obese because all we keep doing is hearing the word and not actually putting it into practice. How do you expect your relationship with God to thrive in this kind of condition? The dangerous thing about being in this group is the fact that because you are too caught up in your own world, you can’t even hear God speak anymore He is right there with you but there is no effect which is why you see people who have been saved for years and there is no change in their lives, no growth some even say God has forgotten them ( God never forgets his own). I understand there are days when we get really weak, trust me I have those days and it’s normal because we are humans but that is why we have God. We need to learn to be vulnerable with God, everyday you wake up, sincerely let him know you need him and He will always come to your aid.

Group Three:

This are the ones who have accepted Christ and daily surrender themselves to His lordship, they have their trying times but it doesn’t stop them from running back to the father, this group are what I call THE NEEDY GROUP because they wake up daily with a need for intimacy with God. Do you know why we are called children of God? That is because children are always needy of their parents and even if physically children grow and some decide they don’t need their parents, we Christians can never be independent of God because he is our life. In Him we live, move and have our being. No Jesus No life.

The only person who can birth in us a daily hunger and need is God, God is the only one who can draw us to Himself and I encourage you to go to Him and ask Him to help you, His arms are wide open. Have you spoken to God today?

Four years ago I was traveling with my dad from Abuja to Taraba state ( northern Nigeria 🇳🇬) to go pick up my mum. I had just returned home for the summer holidays and my Dad felt it would be a very good idea for us to bond after being away for about a year, and since I had never visited Taraba state that was an opportunity for me so we began our journey.

The distance from Abuja to Taraba state is about 10 hours by road, so you can imagine how tired I was coupled with the fact that some of the roads were really bad with lots of potholes like that wasn’t enough, it started raining.

I slept off so many times while my dad Drove, I would wake up talk to him and then sleep back it continued like that until we were almost close to our destination and then my dad said something to me.

He said can you imagine how you slept soundly almost all through the journey even with the potholes and how I had to keep swerving in order to avoid accidents, also with the fact that it was raining and the road wasn’t visible enough but still you weren’t disturbed you kept on sleeping because you knew I would drive carefully. I smiled and told him I trusted him with the wheels.

This was the point where he threw the punchline he said this is how we all should be with God in our daily walk with him in other words this is the kind of relationship we should have with our father Jesus. We should get to that point where we are just so peaceful and relaxed even when there are potholes on the road and storms rage You don’t get worried or terrified because you know God has got your back.

Last week Sunday, the focus of the teaching was on worry and we were taught that worry means sidelining God from the picture of your life. I couldn’t have agreed more because most times when we go through things we automatically take God out of the picture we start looking for help else where and we forget he is with us . We feel like he won’t show up at the time we need him to and he can’t possibly understand what we are going through. While you are trying to help yourself out , Fear kicks in and since fear breeds anxiety, you become anxious and the end product becomes depression.

I was talking to a friend and I said jesus take the wheel and she said how about Jesus take the whole car. How brilliant!!! Yes Jesus I don’t want to give you just a part of me “the wheel” I want you to take the whole of me “ the whole car” That is the only way I can get rid of worry or fear because I know my life is His and He is in charge.

Some of us still have areas of our lives that we have not fully surrendered to Him and we are battling daily, and worrying about things which ideally we are not meant to worry about. Isn’t it funny how much we trust our earthly parents or human beings more than we trust God? We even trust our ideas more than God’s word and promises, we forget that man fails, ideas come and go, friends walk away, people disappoint even some parents give up on their kids but JESUS NEVER FAILS, HE NEVER FORSAKES HIS OWN, HE NEVER CHANGES HE IS THE SAME YESTERDAY TODAY AND FOREVER AND HE IS EVER WILLING TO SHOULDER YOUR BURDENS.

Isaiah 43:1-2(voice translation)

Eternal One: Remember who created you, O Jacob? Who shaped you, O Israel? See, you have nothing to fear. I, who made you, will take you back. I have chosen you, named you as My own. When you face stormy seas I will be there with you with endurance and calm; you will not be engulfed in raging rivers. If it seems like you’re walking through fire with flames licking at your limbs, keep going; you won’t be burned.
